About the facility
Barwon Health’s Carer Support Service is a community based service that provides sensitive face to face or online/telephone support to people in unpaid caring roles through assessment, planning and the provision of information; guided referrals; facilitation of peer support groups; community outreach; developing carer capacity and resilience and delivering practical and innovative support services.
About the role
The principle role of Barwon Health Carer Support is to assist unpaid family carers across the Barwon South West region of Victoria, coordinating and providing practical and emotional support to carers to build capacity and improve wellbeing so that they are able to continue in their caring role
The role entails coordinating and providing practical and emotional support for clients, assisting them to build capacity and to improve their general wellbeing whilst continuing to care for loved ones. The role is diverse; team members support carers individually, facilitate groups and education sessions, network with other stakeholders, and engage in community outreach to increase awareness of carers.
The successful candidate’s role within the team will be to support the assessment, planning, group and coaching component of the service. This role will also support the intake team.
About the culture
The Carer Support team is made up of skilled clinicians from a range of disciplines who work autonomously to respond to the needs of individual carers and provide a range of initiatives to support carers throughout the region. Working as part of a close knit team the role demands genuine empathy for family carers, an openness to new ideas and ways of working, flexibility to adjust to the constantly changing carer environment, and a passion for all forms of support including outreach and group work. Barwon Health Carer Support provides team members with a unique skill set that is widely transferable, high job satisfaction, camaraderie with colleagues – although often high pressured, the team are highly committed to their clients and to each other

Essential: Appropriate qualifications in relevant health related field: Social Work, Welfare, Aged Care, Mental Health, Disability & community Case Management Essential: Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Essential: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of needs of carers and those that they care for. Essential: Demonstrated experience in managing and prioritising own workload. Essential: Highly developed Skills and knowledge in the use of Content Management Systems, Microsoft Office applications and database systems. Desirable: Previous experience facilitating consumer groups and activities Essential: I agree, to commence employment, I am required to meet Barwon Health’s immunisation requirements (including full Covid-19 and Influenza vaccination) set out in the Staff Immunisation Policy.
